Formula 1 chief Bernie Ecclestone was robbed outside of his London office earlier this week, and the thieves made off with approximately $314,000 of jewelry.
Yes, you read that correctly.
The 80-year-old billionaire was kicked and punched by his attackers before they escaped with about £200,000 worth of jewellery, media reports said.Ecclestone was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital.
And in a bizarre bit of foreshadowing, the eccentric Ecclestone had just recently complained that there wasn't enough of a police presence in London after British driver Jenson Button was almost ambushed in Brazil during a race weekend.
While that much jewelry may be a lot to a lot of us -- or, quite frankly, multiple years of income -- that's just a drop in the bucket to the Ecclestone. The settlement with his ex-wife was worth approximately $1 billion. His current girlfriend -- who is 50 years younger -- was with him at the time of the attack but she was unharmed.
