Roy Halladay's philanthropy even extends to Giants territory

Roy Halladay doesn't seem like the type to hold a grudge and a recent round of his charity certainly reflects that belief.

Just a few months after the San Francisco Giants ended his first playoff visit, the Philadelphia Phillies ace decided to fund a community center in Meadow Vista, Calif., which is about 100 miles from the Bay Area but still very much Giants territory.

That's $10K of Halladay's money going toward a construction that has been halted because of a lack of funds.

From the Auburn Journal:

Halladay was introduced to the project by local professional bass fisherman Skeet Reese, who, along with his wife, Kim Reese, has rallied to see the building through to completion. Reese is especially interested in the impact it would have on local youth and the arts.

After pitching a perfect game in 2010, Halladay's management arranged a fishing trip with Reese as a reward. Originally, Reese had approached the Phillies about making a donation toward the center, but Halladay decided to make a personal donation, according to Reese.

Of course, I'm not naive enough to think that athletes limit their philanthropy to the areas of their home teams or withhold it from worthy causes just because they're located near a rival ballparks. But it is nice to see Halladay identifying and supporting projects he likes that are out of his immediate vicinity. Cody Ross fans or not.
