So in an attempt to inject a bit more life and interest into these early season tournaments, and because we're both inveterate gamblers who are one bad card from being out on the streets, Shane Bacon and I are playing a golf version of a football suicide pool: We each pick one golfer per tournament and see how they do against each other, straight up. Victory over the other guy gets one point, victory in the tournament gets three points. And when we burn a golfer, he's done for the year. Follow with us as we place bets in the Valley of the Sun at the Waste Management Open ... Bacon: Man, can I forfeit? Is that allowed? I pick Ben Crane a week ago, and your man Bill Haas takes him by two shots. I'm now 0-4, and starting to feel a little like the 2010 Minnesota Vikings. It's a must win for me, and when you're in a pickle, you HAVE to go with a seasoned veteran, so I'm picking Jhonattan Vegas. That's right! Changing it up! Vegas, baby!
Busbee: Hey, you get three points for a win, so if Vegas pays ... well, you're still losing. Me, I'm taking Nick Watney. He quietly put together a strong closing round at Torrey, and he's the kind of guy who's at his best when nobody's paying much attention to him. Now, since I know you'll be inside the ropes at the WMO, I'm going to be very suspicious if an air horn goes off in Watney's backswing. Clean out Vegas, Nicky!
