On Thursday night at the Sprint Pit Crew Challenge, the No. 11 FedEx Toyota team defended its title against a furious challenge from -- who else? -- the 48 Lowe's Chevrolet team. Familiar, yes?
In the final heat of the bracket challenge, the boys from Joe Gibbs Racing took out the Hendrick contingent with a time of 22.298 seconds, besting the 48's 22.714 seconds. The competition involved an entire pit stop and then a shove of the car across the finish line.
The No. 14 Office Depot Chevy pit crew established a new record with 21.472 seconds, but couldn't hang through the entire challenge. New individual records were set by Mike Casto, the 14's jack man; Rick Pigeon and Ryan Flores, the 14's gas men; Jason Pulver and Austin Craven, the 33's front tire changer/carrier; and Dustin Necaise and Matt Kreuter, the 33's rear changer/carrier. (Hey, these guys don't get a whole lot of love.)
The challenge (whose full name is the NASCAR Sprint Pit Crew Challenge presented by Craftsman) pitted (ha!) the top 24 teams against one another in NASCAR's only sanctioned indoor event.
So, the 11 team finally beat the 48 team. Guess we see where the weak link was in that chain, huh?
