Video: Diamondbacks celebrate holidays with lip dub for fans

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been busy this offseason. They signed free agent J.J. Putz to shore up what was one of the worst bullpens in the majors last season. Third baseman Mark Reynolds was traded to the Baltimore Orioles. Outfielder Justin Upton was briefly shopped around to see what he could bring in a deal. And the team offered Arizona native Paul Konerko a three-year, $30 million contract before he re-signed with the Chicago White Sox.

That's not all the D-backs' front office has been up to this winter, however. Bringing in new players is one way to attract fans. But how about trying a little song, a little dance, to show fans you'll take a chance? That's what the D-backs did for their holiday card this year.

They put together a lip dub for their fans. Yes, a lip dub.

In case you don't know what a lip dub is, it's the video sensation that's sweeping the nation, a video with a bunch of people lip-synching to music, often recorded with a long single-take that moves through several rooms and settings. If you're a fan of "The Office," you might remember this season beginning with the cast performing a lip dub.

Check out the video on the link above and you'll see owner Ken Kendrick and general manager Kevin Towers among those lip dubbing to "D-backs Swing" by Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers. Players such as Ian Kennedy, Barry Enright and Sam Demel are there in uniforms, along with some oversized legends. And, of course, the many employees of the D-backs' front office, some of whom are clearly born performers. The musical whirlwind concludes with a greeting from Luis Gonzalez and team president Derrick Hall (who makes a mad dash to appear in both beginning and end).

Overall, it's an impressive production (which took only four takes to record, according to the team) and a fun message to send out to fans.

Our only bone to pick: Couldn't they have gotten manager Kirk Gibson involved somehow? Beneath that tough, no-nonsense exterior may lurk an accomplished song-and-dance man.

Maybe next year, Gibby.
