One of the big problems with being one of the best drivers in NASCAR is that everyone expects you to be one of the best drivers in NASCAR. So when things go badly for you, it's much worse (and more humiliating) than when things go badly for a backmarker. We assume those guys are going to wreck out, after all.
Case in point: Kyle Busch, who came into Vegas as one of the hottest drivers on both the Sprint and Nationwide circuits. It didn't take long for him to cool off, though. Start with Saturday and an unfortunate spin in the grass in the Nationwide race:
No big deal, right? Kyle's saving himself for the Sprint Cup series, after all. But things didn't get any better with a new day:
Now, that's unfortunate for Kyle. Still, as we've been saying for the last few seasons, if he's able to harness the rage that he's surely feeling after these wrecks, he'll be better able to make a run at the Cup. Regardless, like many a flat-busted gambler, he was surely more than happy to leave Vegas in his rear-view mirror.
