Earlier this week, Rory McIlroy left the country-club circuit to travel to Haiti as a representative for Unicef. Viewing both the damage from the January 2010 earthquake and the construction that's taken place in its wake, McIlroy met with young children at the Ecole Joyeux Lutins in Port Au Prince.
"The chance that these children are getting to be kids and enjoy themselves is so important for their well-being," McIlroy told Irish news outlets. "Being here at this child-friendly space gives them the chance to play with their friends and enjoy themselves ? helping them escape for a little while every day from the difficult situations they are growing up in."
McIlroy also visited a health clinic, and helped the children demonstrate proper hand-washing techniques, a necessity in a land of cholera outbreaks. For more photos from the trip, visit The Journal.IE's website.
