What's with the faulty appendixes belonging to some of baseball's biggest sluggers this year?
Less than a week after an emergency appendectomy sidelined St. Louis Cardinals star Matt Holliday, news is breaking that Chicago White Sox DH Adam Dunn had the same procedure done to him on Tuesday night in Kansas City.
Dunn is currently expected to miss about five days, a short recovery period that would keep him off the disabled list and underscore his reputation as one of baseball's most underrated iron men.
Dunn has played in at least 152 games each season since 2004. The only time he was placed on the 15-day disabled list occurred in 2003, when he suffered a torn ligament in his left thumb and missed the final seven weeks of the season.
Not exactly Cal Ripken, but not too shabby either. Dunn tells NBC Chicago's Paula Faris that he first felt "stabbing pains" on Sunday night but didn't tell the White Sox until Tuesday night. He tells Faris that he hopes to be back soon, maybe even in time for the team's home opener in Chicago on Thursday.
As for Holliday, he had surgery last Friday, but was back playing catch and running wind sprints on Tuesday. He won't be placed on the DL and is expected to make this weekend's trip with the team.
