Michelle Wie in contention at Nabisco after bizarre second round

Going low in a major championship isn't supposed to be this difficult. On a day where most of the field at the Kraft Nabisco Championship struggled to break par, Michelle Wie made her move, posting a 5-under 67 on Friday to get into contention.

After opening with a 2-over 74, you had to wonder if Wie would fight her way back into the mix. That question was answered with a near-spotless round that included just 24 putts.

And she did it all while enduring a truly bizarre round of golf that included an opening tee shot that bounced off the cart parth, ricocheted offa little girl's forehead, and ended up in the fairway.

"I never felt so horrible about a shot ever. I felt so horrible about hitting that poor little girl," Wie said. "But you know, I was kind of like, kind of got lucky and I just felt really bad, and hopefully she's fine."

Things got even more interesting on the back nine, when a drunk fan started attracting attention by yelling in support of Wie."I don't think drinking in over 100-degree weather is a smart idea," she said. "But he was quite entertaining. He wasn't obnoxious at all. I thought it was really funny. Started speaking Spanish there for a while."

Even with the distractions, she still managed to post the best rounds of the day. In the past, one or both situations would have been enough to rattle Wie.But she's clearly growing up and taking all the interesting bounces in stride.

So she can handle outside distractions. Great. Now it's time to see if she can handle something a little bit bigger ... like the pressure of being in contention at a major championship.
