Arguably, the coolest coaches in the NFL and MLB both reside in Tampa Bay. As it turns out, they might even be interchangeable.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris stepped in and managed the Tampa Bay Rays in a spring training game Tuesday, leading the Rays to a 3-2, 10-inning win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Did Raheem pick up anything he can use on the gridiron?
"Anytime you're around great coaches ... seeing how they interact with their players, how they deal with people, how they coach, how they talk with people, how they deal with things on a team basis, you always pick up things. Every time I sit around this man [Rays manager Joe Maddon], I pick up something. Whether it's developing a concept, developing a belief, just a team aspect, a team goal, that's really what it's about, more than anything."
That's not the first time I've heard something like that, either. Bobby Knight, Bill Parcells and Tony La Russa were good pals and spent a lot of time together, too.
Raheem's strategy?
"All I've got to do is look serious and spit seeds."
His seed-spitting technique was hailed as "marvelous" and "perhaps revolutionary."
