Your handy Yahoo! Sports NASCAR chat trivia/betting guide

The Yahoo! Sports NASCAR raceday chats are already worldwide affairs, with race fans checking in from all over the planet (thanks for your service, everybody) to keep up with the week's running.

We've already created our own set of nicknames and lingo for the chat. (See here to catch up.) And now, we're introducing a new element to the chat mix: trivia and betting! No actual money will change hands here, but you'll have the opportunity to win fabulous prizes if you know your NASCAR and are quick on the trigger.

Here's how it works. First, get into the chat room on the front NASCAR page; the chat generally begins 15 minutes before the race, every Sprint Cup race day (or night). To play the trivia game, you'll need to sign in with one of four services: Twitter, Facebook, MySpace or OpenID. (We'll try to add Yahoo! to the mix in the coming weeks.) You're not going to get any spam or anything like that, don't worry.

Throughout the race, questions will pop up, and you'll have the opportunity to answer to add to your point total. We'll warn you in advance of when the question is coming, but the questions themselves won't last long. (Not that we don't trust you, but it would be easy to use your favorite search engine to find some answers.) So be ready.

Right answers gets points added to your total, wrong answers get points taken away. So don't randomly guess; feel free to pass. The categories break down this way:

Trivia: Pretty obvious, a question with multiple options.

Betting: You bet on an event to happen, like the winner, the leader at the half, the lap of the first caution, and events like that. We'll have specific categories; no write-ins needed. Again, if your bet comes up, you get the points; if you lose, you lose those points. You can always pass.

Odds betting: Here's where you can make up some real points. We'll post the likelihood of an event with certain odds (say, Jimmie Johnson to win the race might be 3:1, David Gilliland to win might be 100:1.) You win, you get the bonus points (3x for JJ, 100x for Gilliland); you lose, you lose the points.

Got it? Now race day isn't just about the drivers winning. We're feeding your gambling addiction too!
