? The Rap Sheet. Demonstrating a strong team-wide commitment to offseason mischief, four Rice players were arrested in two separate incidents in a span of less than 72 hours last weekend. On Saturday, defensive end Cody Bauer and offensive lineman Cade Shaw were charged with felony possession of a firearm in their on-campus residence; both were released on $5,000 bond. Two days later, on Monday, starting cornerbacks Kevin Gaddis and Phillip Gaines were both charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession, and Gaddis (pictured at right) was hit with a second misdemeanor for theft of property valued between $50 and $500; they also posted bail. Rice athletic director Rick Greenspan said the university is "aware of the allegations" but hasn't issued any discipline pending further investigation. [Houston Chronicle]
Elsewhere in mid-major misdemeanors, Kent State safety Zachary Gonosz has been suspended indefinitely following an early-morning arrest on Saturday for allegedly assaulting a passenger in a cab ? who also happened to be the owner of the cab company ?�outside a local bar. Gonosz was also charged with displaying a fake I.D. and underage drinking, almost exactly a year after he was charged with underage drinking on May 1, 2010. He posted $1,905 bond, pled not guilty to all charges at a preliminary hearing and was allowed to return to his hometown in Georgia. [KentWired.com]
? Stay of execution? The NCAA subcommittee that licenses postseason bowl games has decided to delay an official decision on renewing the Fiesta Bowl's permit as it "gathers more information on the bowl's future." Members of the subcommittee will still meet with officials of the scandal-plagued bowl in New Orleans on April 27-28, as part of its annual review of the licenses of all 35 bowl games, but won't make a decision there as previously expected. Coveted prospect Johnathan Gray of Aledo, Texas, one of only a dozen players in the 2012 recruiting class ?�and the only running back ?� pegged for early five-star status by Rivals, has verbally committed to sign with the Longhorns next February. Gray broke a 57-year-old state record with 59 rushing touchdowns in 2010, capping his junior season with a ridiculous 320-yard, eight-touchdown effort in a state championship game, and at 5-11, 190 pounds, has drawn straight-faced comparisons to Tony Dorsett. Brady Hoke's Michigan Family Values Tour, fresh off a feel-good reunion at Saturday's spring game, will take the show on the road to meet with former Wolverines at 15 stops around the country. "Those guys are so important to Michigan football and the fabric of Michigan football and the tradition of 132 years and the legacy," Hoke told Ann Arbor radio host Sam Webb. "We are embracing those guys because they're the guys who have worn that winged helmet, and they're the guys who have the character and the integrity of Michigan football over all those years, and they've upheld it.
