I know what your argument is going to be about this story. I know that you'll point to the Accenture this year, or the clutch birdie putt on the 72nd hole this week at the Heritage, or even the fact that he is now ranked No. 2 in the world to show that Luke Donald is a gamer.
But on Sunday, when it mattered, one of the best irons player in the world couldn't find the green with a 7-iron and a 9-iron, evidence that no matter how well he is playing, it sure seems that when the going gets tough, Donald lets the pressure get to him.
One of the commentators�during the playoff compared Donald to Corey Pavin in terms of toughness, but the fact of the matter is, Luke hasn't won a stroke-play event on the PGA Tour since 2006 and just one stroke-play event on the European Tour in seven years. It seems he's a little less Pavin and a little more Fred Couples, a guy that has a ton of talent but seems to falter more than he comes through.
Don't believe me? Look at his finishes in 2011 alone ... He's been in contention in the last three tournaments but has broke 70 only once on Sunday, and that came at the Masters thanks to a chip-in on the final hole.
Donald seems like the type of player that will continue to be in the hunt, because he is putting really well and seems to be in a groove with his swing, but when it comes down to it, much like Lee Westwood, the wins are few and far between.
