It's tough playing on the PGA Tour. Aside from the weekly grind to make the cut and make enough money to retain your card, there's the added pressure to post some high finishes so your caddie has something to bring home to his family as well.
Kip Henley knows what it's like to be a caddie on the PGA Tour. As the looper for Brian Gay, he's seen his pro win twice one season and go winless the next.
But at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, Henley got a taste of what it's �like to be on the other side, after he received a berth in the tournament as the Tennessee PGA Section Champion. With his daughter on the bag and some low expectations, Henley wanted to enjoy the week and see where his game measured up against not only Gay, who was in the field, but a number of other big names on tour.
Two days after Henley hit his first shot, he was left shaking his head, after posting rounds of 82-78 -- good enough for a last-place finish in the event. While nobody expected him to make the cut, Henley clearly wasn't pleased with the way he played.
Richard S. Johnson, who happened to be playing in Memphis, tweeted a photo of a note Henley left his fellow competitors as he departed the course. So, yeah, it would seem Henley isn't planning on teeing it up in another tour event in the near future.
While he's obviously a great stick, it just goes to show that the best player in Tennessee PGA Section had a hell of a time getting around TPC Southwind. If anything, this�is just another example of how big the gap is between a scratch player and the best golfers on the planet.
But let's be honest here; if Henley wins Tennessee PGA Section Champion again, you have to think he's going to have a change of heart, right? Once he simmers down and forgets about this, I'd be willing to bet he'd jump at the chance to play a tour event in the future.
