Seve Ballesteros' passing leaves an unfillable void in the golf world, but if many European Tour players get their wish, Seve will be a part of the tour for many years to come.
A movement is building to change the logo of the European Tour to honor Ballesteros. The logo is only a few years old, and that silhouette there is of six-time British Open champion Harry Vardon.
But Ballesteros, more than any other golfer, built the European Tour into what it is now; his resume included five majors and a career-record 50 European Tour wins. Ballesteros retired in 2007; Vardon, meanwhile, hasn't won a British Open since 1914, and is not expected to be competitive again anytime soon.
Ballesteros is already the namesake of the "Seve Trophy," which goes to the winner of a Britain/Ireland vs. Continental Europe throwdown, but the man deserves more. And since there's already a Harry Vardon Trophy, why not give Seve the logo?
The knock against the idea, of course, is that the Vardon logo is only 2 years old, and a change right now would be more of an emotional decision than a well-considered one. Still, Ballesteros is likely to live on in European Tour lore, whether on the logo or elsewhere.
