Video: Grapes of Rap? DJ Steve Porter remixes Don Cherry

DJ Steve Porter is the genius that took the "Slap Chop" commercial and remixed it into a rap track. The result was over 11 million views on YouTube and instant celebrity for Porter, who was soon getting gigs like "Inside The NFL" remixing Jim Mora soundbytes.

CBC's "Hockey Night In Canada" recently had Porter, a big time puckhead from Massachusetts, do a HNIC remix that aired before a Montreal Canadiens/Toronto Maple Leafs game last weekend. On Saturday, another Porter track dropped on CBC: Taking decades of Don Cherry clips and remixing it into the kind of rap/rock hybrid that would have been right at home on a Rock'em Sock'em VHS tape circa 1989:

Honestly, we don't care what Porter's intentions really were; we're just going to assume that making the hook "go down blazin'" is a reference to, you know, "blazin'"... which is awesome.

If you missed Porter's "Lose Yourself"-esque Leafs/Canadiens remix, check it out:

This is great and all, but let's consider the source material: Don Cherry and arguably the greatest rivalry in NHL history offer rich fodder. We therefore challenge DJ Steve Porter to "remix" the Columbus Blue Jackets and Nashville Predators before their Jan. 2 game in Nashville, because capturing the essence of that not-really-a-rivalry isn't quite as easy. You've only got one shot, do not miss your chance to blow, cuz this opportunity comes once in a lifetime, sir.
