Wednesday's Three Stars: Zetterberg to the rescue; Tavares OT win

No. 1 Star: Henrik Zetterberg, Detroit Red Wings

With teammate Pavel Datsyuk injured in the first period, Zetterberg had to step up his game. So he played 23:01, more than any other Detroit forward, and posted a 3-point night in Detroit's 5-4 victory over the red-hot Vancouver Canucks. He tallied a goal in the third period to tie the game, assisted on Nicklas Lidstrom's goal at 16:06 of the third to tie it again and then won the game at 2:59 in overtime with this slapper past Roberto Luongo (40 saves):

No. 2 Star: John Tavares, New York Islanders

Tavares corralled a rebound of his initial shot and beat Dan Ellis for the game-winning overtime goal at 3:23, as the Islanders topped the visiting Bolts, 2-1. He also assisted on P.A. Parenteau's second-period game-tying goal. Full marks to Dwayne Roloson for a 37-save effort that included 15 in the first.

No. 3 Star: Corey Crawford, Chicago Blackhawks

The defense played well in front of him but Crawford made 24 saves, including a few tough ones, in back-stopping the Blackhawks to a 4-1 win over the Nashville Predators. Jack Skille had two goals in the victory, and Bryan Bickell scored goal No. 10.

Honorable mention: Sidney Crosby now has the second-longest point streak in 18 years in the NHL, going to 22 games with a first-period goal (28 on the season) in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 5-2 victory over the Florida Panthers. Ben Lovejoy scored his first NHL goal. Chris Kunitz had two assists. Stephen Weiss and Bryan McCabe scored for the Panthers. ... Henrik and Daniel Sedin both had a goal and an assist. ... Brian Rafalski had three assists for the Wings.

Did you know? Ryan Malone, Tampa's lone goal-scorer, scored his first NHL goal against current Islanders general manager Garth Snow on Oct. 29, 2003, while with Pittsburgh. (AP)

Dishonorable mention: The Lightning were 1-for-6 on the power play. ... Dennis Wideman was a minus-4 for the Panthers. ... Tomas Vokoun was lifted for Scott Clemmensen after giving up three goals on 14 shots. Marc-Andre Fleury took over for Brent Johnson after Johnson injured his groin.
