Saturday's Three Stars: Shutouts for Anderson, Montoya; Hall trick

No. 1 Star: Craig Anderson, Ottawa Senators

In his first start for the Sens, Anderson won the Battle of Ontario with a 47-save performance, stopping the Toronto Maple Leafs in the shootout, 1-0. He made 13 saves in the first and third periods, 17 in the second and 4 more in overtime. Jason Spezza had the lone goal in the skills competition.

No. 2 Star: Taylor Hall, Edmonton Oilers

The Atlanta Thrashers took a 3-1 lead over the Oilers in the third period on an Evander Kane goal. That's when the Taylor Hall show started. The rookie scored three consecutive power-play goals in a 12:53 span for his first NHL hat trick, propelling the Oilers to a 5-3 victory.

No. 3 Star: Al Montoya, New York Islanders

In his first start since April 9, 2009 with the Phoenix Coyotes, Montoya stopped all 35 shots he faced, helping the Islanders to a 3-0 win over the visiting Los Angles Kings. Matt Moulson scored twice ... against his brother-in-law Jonathan Quick.

Honorable mention: It was tough leaving Devin Setoguchi outside the Three Stars, but here he is, despite a hat trick in the San Jose Sharks' 4-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche. Antti Niemi made 25 saves for the shutout. ... The New Jersey Devils used three first-period goals and two on the night for Dainus Zubrus to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes, 4-1, and close within 10 points of the No. 8 seed. It was their third win over the Canes in the last 12 days. ... Chris Stewart scored twice and Kevin Shattenkirk had an assist in their St. Louis Blues debuts, as the Blues routed the Anaheim Ducks, 9-3. T.J. Oshie, and McDonald, Alex Steen and David Backes all had three-point nights. ... Mike Santorelli tied the game at 17:00 of the third period and scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Florida Panthers beat the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-2. ... Keith Yandle, Taylor Pyatt and Lauri Korpikoski had the goals in the Coyotes' 3-2 victory over the Nashville Predators. ... Raffi Torres scored two goals to break a 23-game drought and Daniel Sedin had two goals and an assist in the Vancouver Canucks' 5-2 victory over the Dallas Stars. Did you know? According to Scott Rintoul, all five goals scored by the Canucks tonight were by gingers (Sedin, Sedin and Torres). (Thanksto reader Earl Gordon for that vital info.)

Dishonorable mention: While the Blues' new additions were making an impact, Erik Johnson and Jay McClement combined for a minus-2 and no points with the Avs.  ... Erik Cole and Jussi Jokinen were a minus-4 for the Canes. ... Stephane Robidas was a minus-4 for the Stars. ... The Ducks gave up three goals on five Blues power plays. ... Teemu Selanne was given 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct and a 10-minute misconduct for disputing a call. ... Curtis McElhinney was pulled after giving up four goals on 11 shots. ...
