No. 1 Star: Phil Kessel, Toronto Maple Leafs
As much as we wanted to give Brett Lebda the first star for his first goal since Oct. 22, 2009, there's no denying Kessel's brilliant 4-point night in the Leafs' 5-4 win at the Montreal Canadiens. After Jeff Halpern opened the scoring for the Habs, Kessel scored two power-play goals 4:03 apart in the first period, giving him six goals in five games. He assisted on Tyler Bozak's power-play tally in the second period to give the Leafs the lead again and then assisted on another Bozak goal in the third that proved to be the game-winner. James Reimer made 31 saves, and the Leafs are now just four points out of a playoff spot in the East.
No. 2 Star: Corey Crawford, Chicago Blackhawks
In Joel Quenneville's return to the Chicago bench after a health scare, Crawford stopped all 31 shots he faced in a 3-0 win at the Nashville Predators. It's his third shutout of the season. Tomas Kopecky, Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp (his 32nd) had the goals.
No. 3 Star: Kari Lehtonen, Dallas Stars
The Dallas goalie helped the Stars snap a 5-game losing streak with a 38-save performance in a 4-1 win at the Detroit Red Wings. Mike Ribeiro, Loui Eriksson, Krys Barch and Jamie Langenbrunner had the goals. Lehtonen turned back 16 shots in the third.
Honorable mention: Andrej Meszaros scored this game-winning goal (video) with 18 seconds left in overtime to give the Philadelphia Flyers a 4-3 victory over the visiting New York Islanders. Matt Martin scored twice for the Isles, including the game-tying goal with 28 seconds left in regulation. ... Cory Schneider made 28 saves and Manny Malhotra's goal broke a 2-2 tie in the third to give the Vancouver Canucks a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues. Sami Salo scored his first of the year for Vancouver. David Backes scored his 23rd in the loss, with assists from Chris Stewart and Kevin Shattenkirk. ... Wayne Simmonds scored twice as the Los Angeles Kings topped the Minnesota Wild, 4-2. Drew Doughty broke a third-period tie with a goal and Anze Kopitar iced it with a shorthanded empty netter from the faceoff circle at the other end of the rink. ... Finally, this was a pretty darn good pass from Claude Giroux to James van Riemsdyk for a goal.

Dishonorable mention: Alex Auld was pulled for the Habs after giving up 3 goals on 9 shots. ... Dan Cleary was a minus-4 and Nicklas Lidstrom was a minus-3 for the Red Wings. ... Tomas Holmstrom, who scored a goal, was called for one of those "reputation based" goalie interference penalties. "I thought it should've been a goal," said Coach Mike Babcock of the Wings' tally that was denied. ... Seriously, Flyers and Islanders: No fights and two penalties? The Patrick Division weeps.
